What a Broken Zipper Taught Me

This past Saturday I purchased a black hoodie in my size from a local store. Mind you, I did not try it on beforehand. And when I got it home, I noticed that it didn’t have the zipper head to zip it closed and open. Oh my….so instead of ranting and raving…I decided to write about what it taught me as a grandma, mom and woman to help myself in the future. Perhaps it’ll help you put on your hat in life, too. And yes, you men can be included. You are grandpas, fathers and men, too.

10 Ways to Take Care of Yourself:

  1. Stay focused; lay out a plan of action and be sure to incorporate all the details into the final product. Looking things over from head to toe or making a mental list of what is needed is added advice. It’s kinda like-okay, I’m going to be needing these items to wear, or to cook, or to drive…Make sure that they are in good working order prior to using or needing it and this even applies to buying things. Then that alone takes stress out of the equation. Plan ahead.
  2. Do for yourself first. If you are not there for YOU, then how can you be there for others? So do what you need to do to be on top of your game: https://www.thewaytohappiness.org/thewaytohappiness/precepts/take-care-of-yourself.html
  3. Keep your agreements with others once your word is given. This builds integrity. Integrity is defined as maintaining a firm adherence to a moral code-yours.
  4. Rise up early as there are many benefits. Here’s another great link: https://zenhabits.net/10-benefits-of-rising-early-and-how-to-do-it/
  5. Be mindful of your goals, write them on a list and check them off when finished with the activity. This helps to keep your momentum going. You can see what it is you have done and what items you have left to do for that day and the week.
  6. Be productive. Staying busy and focused is what keeps you sane. If you are prone to sit around and do ‘nothing’ then self-respect and your honor goes out which makes you feel lousy. Keep busy and do only those things that bring you closer to those goals. Hang around only those people that help you further those goals as well.
  7. Observe your thinking patterns. Is your self-talk positive and uplifting? If not, then take a look at changing something with you first. Get help at https://maryrensberry9.wixsite.com/newlifecounseling .
  8. Set a good example. It can be done many ways. It can often be done by just using our manners and being kind. Saying Please and Thank you is a great start! Setting a good example helps others learn and have a better day, too.
  9. Breathe in and out…and be mindful of the condition or state you are in. Take steps to improve your situation so things don’t continue to deteriorate. And take a few minutes to appreciate or be grateful for the things and people already in your life.
  10. Take a free course on an area in your life that you need help in. Learn to navigate the physical world a little be easier so that you are more able and competent. Just don’t think that you know it all as we all have room for improvement or we wouldn’t be here on earth. Learning something new brings certainty and makes you and others, believe it or not, feel better. Now, as far as that black hoodie without the zipper head I mentioned earlier…I’m sure in the grand scheme of things, I’ll be able to find a replacement and it’ll work just fine. It’s all the lessons learned anyway that make my day a little bit brighter and easier. Hope you found this information useful and helpful. Take it easy and smile!

Allies

An *ally, by definition, is someone or a group, club, league, etc., that another bonds to in a spirit of cooperation for growth, protection, support. For what purposes one may ally with, there are many. If it is in the spirit of love, help, and fostering of good, then allies are certainly invaluable.

Just as we humans can get along better with another, a wife with a husband, or a child with a playmate, then it really behooves one to try to form alliances wherever we can. In a spirit of cooperation, not of competition, should be group/s work together. It is a union of like purposes -and really there is only one purpose on Earth as I can see it now: to help each individual to be the best that they can be, whether that be spiritual, mental/emotional, or physical.

It is my thinking and understanding that each of us is unique and special. We all have our gifts, talents, skills and passions to present to the world. The world is a better place because of each one of us. Now, getting to the point of allies and how important they are–

Since God is ‘in’ me and to the degree that I recognize this bond, this union, I am setting off particular spiritual vibrations of energy. The more I am able to give every thought, imagination, and intention a vibration of love, then all else falls secondary to that. That energy thought wave is felt; I need not be a physics major or scientist to know that. When a person walks into a room that is filled with go-getters and positiveness, then that feeling is felt and experienced by changes. More on that later.

When I am aware of my thoughts and my abilities to create for the good, adding to that momentum, then I am setting up for myself, more productivity and purer products not only for myself but for the group, my allies. Some of the group members may not be up to the level that others are in positions of good control and power, but it is to this allegiance for the highest good that we must work towards. Focusing all my ‘good’ ‘higher’ thoughts, words and actions on the groups’ efforts and activities, will foster a better working condition for all. It’s like being in step with a band, a good illustration. I like watching the half-time activities of the college or high school bands waltz across the field, in unison. It is a sight to behold. Nature works that way, too. Watch a sunrise and see and hear the plants and animals wake up (some to go to sleep) all in harmony and unity-each group being separate, but working towards the whole of bringing life to a new day and to the many participants. Some will not see or feel the new day. That is alright. Some may call the new day curse words. That’s okay, too. The thing to do is to build a better world by working as allies. Working together by providing solutions to abuses of human rights, abuses to our justice system, abuses in the workplace. There are many solutions that the problems of this day or moment presents. Be open to them; be ever watchful for that ‘one’ that needs our help to make him or her a better abled person because who likes to be at the effect of things or people if they only knew better. It is in the name of help that allies form bonds and cooperate with each other so that help can be given.

Unlimited positive helpful thoughts enhance and build the energy one has. Let all else pass you by. Be busy with what you need to do on your Battle Plan for the day. Stick to your plan and with those good thoughts and actions, allies can work together more easily and in unison. There is infinite good and eternal love that is the source of who each of us really are, the source of all beauty and abundance. Beginning with the idea that you are that, we can create a world that works for us ALL, and not just some of us.

I AM COMMUNICATIVE. I AM COOPERATIVE. I AM WILLING TO WORK FOR THE HIGHEST GOOD WITH MY HIGHEST THOUGHTS, WORDS AND MY ACTIONS SHOW FOR IT.

Scriptures that cooperate with the above statements:

“For it is God who is at work in you.—Philippians 2:13 Christian Bible

“Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Ps 46:10 Jewish Old Testament

“In other words, there is the theory of: “What you pay attention to makes that thing important.”

You as human beings can create tomorrow’s reality by what you think today or what you believe in today. If you believed, all of you, hard enough, that there was going to be a monument out here, a hundred feet square and two miles high, to the pioneers of aviation and you all believed there was going to be this and you wanted it there and so on, there’d BE ONE there one day, there’d be one there.

That’s because you believe in it. ..It’s what you VALIDATE !

“If you believe in this human being as a sane human being, he will act sane, not because you coax him to but because you are just validating this. This is his reality, then—the sanity. You’re telling him this is reality—his sanity.

“All right. But supposing you treat him all the time as a neurotic or an aberrated human being. Immediately this person will become more neurotic. I mean, it just works out that way. Even people who are fairly well balanced, if they are around people who are entirely concentrated on nullification, people who are afraid or timid, people who count on their own superiority by making other people less superior, who count on that mechanism to get along in life, are very dangerous because what do they keep validating? They keep validating the shortcomings and the weaknesses of those around them, you see? And by validating those weaknesses and shortcomings they actually bring them into being and make the person weak and make him exhibit more and more shortcomings and so make the person less and less strong and win.”

“It’s what you validate that counts.”

“How would you raise a child using this same theory?”

“For instance Indian children are very obedient, they are very cheerful. They’re quite something to be around. An Indian tribe in the old days used to be in connivance on every child. They were all plotting against this child’s insanity, because every time this child, voluntarily or otherwise, would pick up a stick of wood to put it on the fire, no matter who was there, they’d say, ‘Oh, what a good child.’

“Now, the child would go down to the brook and he was really intending to take this little bag of something down there and throw it away, and somebody would say to him, ‘Oh, you’re going to get some water, what a good child.’ ‘You’re helping your mother, what a good child.’ ‘You’re being obedient. You’re a good child.’ And when they were bad children, they ignored them. They just shut them off.

“Now, it requires pretty steady nerves and a lot of outdoors to do this. The only reason I’m using it is just to demonstrate there what you validate in a child.

“I’ve seen Indians work this, by the way—Blackfeet. It’s the most fascinating thing you ever saw in your life.

“This kid will suddenly look so bewildered. He’s caught off base. What he was actually intending to do was to blow up Bull Moose’s tent! And somebody says, ‘Oh, you’re taking that over to your father to give it to him. What a good child.’”

*ally-comes from Middle English allien, from Anglo-French alier, from Latin alligare to bind to, from ad- + ligare to bind Ref: Merriam-webster online dictionary

Granting Life

People are alive to the degree that life has been granted to them and alive to the degree that he has granted life to himself and others.  Or stated another way, grant life to yourself and others and life begets life.

We are here…we are alive this very moment.  Look around and grant that same life that is in you to your possessions, appreciate those things, take care of those things that take care of you.  Grant life to the community you live and work in, saying to yourself, ‘Hey, this is a great place to live and the people here are wonderful!’  The town and the people in it eventually will conform to the life you give it to that degree.  Just think what a difference it would make starting with just idea.

This day grant life to yourself, to your family, to your home, to your possessions, to each other in the community…And the degree you grant that life into people and things is the degree of aliveness it becomes.  Funny how things work out that way…but try it…do it each moment.  As an artist and illustrator, I’ve got to breathe life into what I’m drawing or doing on canvas or it just won’t communicate to others.  If I can’t do that, then to that degree, I have not accomplished my goal as an artist.  You don’t have to have a degree from a major art school or to have studied under someone to create…just imbue LIFE into it…desire it, feel it, put emotions in it…and it’ll communicate and be alive to that degree.   It’s amazing what things can happen from granting life to yourself and others.

So go out there and be your great self-GRANT LIFE!  Help, support, play with, imagine, uplift, act with kindness…It is something which we can ALL do…and it is relatively simple.

Superheroes on Super Bowl Sunday

You see them on TV and dressed up at parties…but just what is a superhero?  To me, a superhero is one that takes 1) life by the horns (is in command of life in a positive way) and 2) elevates his or her friends or groups of friends to even greater heights of goodness, honesty, truthfulness, and ethics besides vastly improving their abilities.

In taking life by the horns, it would actually be a person so endowed with life itself- a god or a goddess she would be.  There have been many superheroes throughout the ages, men like Einstein, Isaac Newton, Leonardo Da Vinci, Aristotle, and even Plato to top the list.  Can you think of some great superheroes that were female?  I bet we both can!  How about Madame Curie, Joan of Arc, or even Eleanor Roosevelt, Rosa Parks or even Harriet Tubman?  Certainly, and there is a vast majority of them.  We just never hear about them due to all the negativity that is put forth from the news, tabloids, etc.

And for 2 above-Like what abilities you might ask could this superhero improve?  Like being able to communicate better or perhaps getting along with others better. Perhaps giving the needed help in not solving the person’s problems, but putting the person in the position of helping to solve those problems themselves.  There are so many ways to help others without holding them down and keeping them at that particular station in life.

In all truthfulness, superheroes are not born, they are actually made.  Wouldn’t it be great if we as a culture could raise up a generation of superheroes?  It simply starts as a decision…a decision to be a superhero, growing in knowledge about what that entails and practicing those things, a willingness to help yourself and others and going out and doing it!

Can we raise up a generation of superheroes?

How To keep your favorite books in the library

With libraries ‘weeding’ books every 3-4 years based on their use in and out of the library, it came to mind that the best of the best of the minds of men are going to be in our libraries in the future.  Or will they? And who makes that determination?  If they are our public libraries, then is it just a select few that screen them or ‘weed them out based on their usage?  It is all based on numbers actually.  So the more the books that are checked out, the longer those books stay on the shelves.  It’s as simple as that.

It makes a good game though to have ‘Friends of the Library’ sell older ‘weeded’ books only for others to buy them and sell them at record highs because they are now in demand from scarcity.  Makes a good game, like I said.

I have my own personal library…and treasure certain authors.  Of course, when I don’t have them, then I can go online and get them when I need or want them.  So really, what’s the big deal?

Bottom line: If you have a favorite author or book in the public library, you might want to check the book out or pass that preference on to others so they can check it out, too, and often.  Keep your favorite books alive in the library!

Our God-given Human Rights

It’s never too late to express the desire within me that I wish everyone to know and act upon their God-given rights, their Human Rights.

Dec. 10th marked the 70th year that the founder, Eleanor Roosevelt, along with representatives from regions all over the world, formally adopted a document which was outlined by the United Nations.  These representatives laid out thirty fundamental rights that every human being on earth inherits simply because of who they are-Human.  This document became the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

First, some definitions:

We are Human meaning a member of the Homo Sapiens species; man, woman, child or person.

We have Rights meaning things to which You and I are responsible for and responsible for upholding- freedoms that are guaranteed and should not be taken for granted, simply because we are Human.

We have thirty Human Rights.  Do you know them?

How can we ensure that our Human Rights are being upheld if we do not know our rights?  Who or what entities or Organizations can help with this endeavor?  I can state it simply-those persons/people or those groups that recognize that we have these guaranteed Human Rights and which help to ensure that Human Rights are known and protected, not abused.

1. Those people and organizations that help uplift Humanity without enslavement or entrapment.  That would mean dignifying the personhood.  (Dignified defined as being worthy, honored or esteemed.)  If we are all made of star-dust and are creations full of potential, then isn’t it everyone’s duty and responsibility to ensure that we KNOW that and even more so, act upon that?

2. Those people and organizations that allow for participation and sharing in life itself and to which encourages an exchange for the benefits granted to them.  Most people are more than willing to pay it back or pay it forward once living from their conscience.  Do you know of such groups and organizations that encourage participation and sharing?  What do you give in return?  How do you help?

3. Those people and organizations that have and use their voice-a voice that speaks loudly for those that have & have not; a passion instilled within them to level the playing field so that all humans know, have and appreciate their God-given Human Rights.

Yes, it may sadly come down to doing actual harm to those that would want to suppress these rights but- – -That is how important Education is– so that the tipping point of using destruction can be averted if at all possible.

Are there effective and enlightened humans and groups of humans working either by themselves or together in unison to achieve the aims of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights?

Are there effective materials and tools one can find and use to help enlighten others?

Yes, there are.

Study to show yourselves approved.
